I went to New Market crossfit yesterday morning. Had to travel right in peak hour, so even though I gave myself double the normal time I was still 15 minutes late!! Next time I'll give myself a full hour.
I had to pay for parking which was annoying. I walked into the gym (very well signposted) there were 3 women already working out. I spoke to Jason (the trainer) who put me through the warm up straight away and then talked about the workout of the day (WOD) which is called Cindy. For some reason beyond me someone decided to give the workouts real peoples names and everyone followed along. The Cindy was
5 Pullups (haha yeah right)
10 push ups (hmm maybe knee ones)
15 squats (no problem)
as often as possible in 20 mins.
Jason decided to go for 15 minutes something I am grateful for.
For the pullups there was a rubber tube tied to a steel beam which you put your foot in and it helps lift you up. In fact the pull ups were easy and fun.
The pushups I was on my knees and had a foam cushion under them plus one chest level. I went down until my chest touched the cushion then back up again. I couldn't help but think if I had DD implants in how much easier that would be.
Squats we all the way down until my butt touched a ball.
The 3 women raced against each other while I made sure every moved counted and my technique was perfect.
Crossfit is a high injury sport but normally because people decide to choose intensity or speed over technique. I read it is best to spend a good 6 months practising the right technique before worrying about upping the intensity.
I got a lot of compliments on my technique which always feels good by Jason. The other women raced away & I noticed their technique lacked. Also at the end they all said that they had done 13 rounds when the never finished the last round. So while I completed 11 rounds I feel I did fantastic, not only for myself but against women who have done this longer.
By the end of the workout I felt weak & worn out but not on the verge of vomiting which I did for that small 7 min W/O at St Johns (which is never fun)
I signed a wavier afterwards haha likely I didn't hurt myself aye ; ) and Jason told me to come over on Friday for another workout & we would talk about my goals.
So all in all a very positive day. His classes are around 5-10 people prepared to St Johns (about 30) and I feel I would prefer the smaller, calmer environment.
Also it is cheaper & closer to where I live, so I will give it a go there first. Jasons intro is during the womens classes Tues & Fri so that works in with my schedule & I only have to pay normal monthly fees of $180. Prepared to St Johns 4 week intro (3x weekly) at $250 ouch.
Today I feel a bit sore around my shoulders and my inner thighs & butt but all in all not bad at all. I thought I would be alot worse. And I slept like a baby last night which is an added bonus. With two small children you realise pretty quick how important sleep is. Precious precious sleep.
I'll keep you posted on my Fridays W/O.
